Cloudron – Self-Hosted Docker / Containerised Apps (But Still Not a Personal Application Server?)

Late last year, Docker snapped up cross-cloud container management service Tutum, but it wasn’t clear how the acquired company’s handiwork would manifest under the Docker brand. Tutum was built from the ground up as a Docker tool. It gives visibility into containers, and enables a team to create, start, terminate or redeploy as needed. It also provides a dashboard view of all of the containers under team management. Tutum is now Docker Cloud. Docker Cloud is a new service by Docker that implements all features previously offered by Tutum plus integration with Docker Hub Registry.
This is not so much thinking of Docker from an enterprise perspective as an environment that supports development and auto-scaled deployment of containerised applications and services, nor is it a view that a web hosting service might take of Docker images providing an appropriate packaging format for the self-service deployment of long-lived services, such as blogs or wiki applications, (a Docker hub and deployment system to rival cPanel, for example). Instead, it’s a user-centric, rather than devops-centric view, seeing containers from a single user, desktop perspective, seeing Docker and its ilk as providing an environment that can support off-the-shelf, ready to run tools and applications, that can be run locally or in the cloud, individually or in concert with each other.
Just two days to Codemotion Rome 2016 and we are super excited! As you know we have many international speakers, coming from outside Europe as well. Like Alessandro Nadalin, an Italian guy who lives in Dubai, working as VP Technology at Namshi, a fashion e-commerce in the middle-east. He is a seasoned technical leader, who pays a lot of attention to enterprise patterns, methodologies and SOA. When he’s not working, you can find him speaking at some conferences, blogging or eating some Indonesian food in the old side of Dubai. He is going to give two talks at Codemotion Rome: “React Native in the wild” and “Dockerize it: stop living in the past and embrace the future”.
dockerfile for audiogrep and pocketsphinx. Run the build script to build the container, and the run script to run it (you'll want to mount your home directory not mine). After running the container you can use the audiogrep command to run audiogrep.
I really want to try this, give me a good excuse to play with Docker.
I spotted this post on Deploying Your Very Own Shiny Server. I’ve been toying with the idea of running some of my own Shiny apps, so that post provided a useful prompt, though way too involved for me;-)
I am looking forward to this, it may open up a brave new world for Reclaim Hosting.
Great post on installing #Discourse via Docker containers
More and more articles about Docker every day. Damn that @kinlane was right!
Deploying a Minecraft Server with Docker Machine via Kin Lane.
Need to play with this soon..
One of the many tools I'll be trying to wrap my head around before Reclaim Your Domain this November.
