TL; DR: Getting started building a website can be daunting. The combination of hardware and software, the terms and technology, and the never ending stream of bad information on the Internet leaves a lot of folks scratching their head and giving up on their dreams of a digital identity. Tim Owens and Jim Groom envision a world where hosting is simple, shared, and available to anyone that has a desire to claim it. Together they’re turning that dream into reality with easily accessible hosting for everyone — including a product for students and staff to get free hosting through their university.
Reclaim Records is starting to get further fleshed out thanks to the latest installment from the great Bryan Mathers. I really love the colors in this one, not to mention the synchronization of all the details we’ve been working on from album covers, to the #ds106 coffee mug, to the awesome EDUPUNK poster (a work of art within the work of art), the smack-talking on Canada, and the figure behind the counter. The idea will be to switch the face of Reclaim—this one presumably me given the hairline and glasses—with caricatures of Tim and Lauren. Each of us behind the counter server up the goods. What this image makes me want more than anything else is a Reclaim storefront. http:/
In this course we will build a personal website together, explore some of the reason for having a personal space online, especially in the educational context, and examine some of the challenges and opportunities provided by participating in online courses like this one. While our focus will be on the expectations of those in the education field, particularly graduate students and instructors, participants from other fields are welcome. Similarly, while we will only cover the particular details of Wordpress and Reclaim Hosting, the course may be of interest to those who prefer different tools or those interested in technology and online education more generally.
I finally got to see the OU Create window display. It is awesome. Reclaim Hosting in the flesh!

In episode 106 of Digital Campus (a.k.a dc106-coincidence? I think not) the director of the Roy Rosensweig Center for History and New Media, Stephen Robertson, gives a shout out to Reclaim Hosting suggesting how "absurdly easy" it is for students and faculty to setup and manage their own applications on their own domains.
